Downtown Seattle Mac Kid Review: BonBon Brunch at the Market

Dancing, Music, Laughter, Brunch = Memorable Family Time

By Sophal Hamaker January 23, 2019

A review AND a giveaway?!  Say it isn't so!  Why, it IS so!!

A typical Sunday in Seattle for us usually means getting out and doing something with the family, hence the phrase "Sunday Funday".  We have a handful of places we haunt, you can find them here:  15 Things To See And Do In Seattle On Any Weekend!

On this particular Sunday, we got the chance to see a hidden gem in the heart of our very own Pike Place Market.  Most people think of merchants throwing fish at Pike Place or the 1st Starbucks or its endless rows of handmade crafts and bobbles and floral arrangements and fresh local produce.  They walk the cobble streets and enjoy the view from the new open air Marketfront which overlooks Elliott Bay and views of Mt Rainier (when it isn't clouded over) and the stadiums and the complete Waterfront.  This isn't an advertisement for Pike Place Market, but yet, it kind of is....

Now, in Pike Place Market there is a little theatre just below the sidewalk into Pike Place.  A theatre that one can only spot when they stop to smell the flowers or stop to take a selfie with the world famous Public Market Center and Farmers Market signs or to get a sample of a slice of fresh local fruit from a vendor.  A petit sandwich board that directed us to where we needed to go, down a few steps into one of the market's many buildings.  Here we are at the door of the Can Can Culinary Cabaret for their newest spectacular, the BonBon Brunch!  Checking in is a breeze, no tickets, just names are needed.  Once past, the velvet rope, you are in a whole other world.  Just 10 feet in front of us is the bar, just feets above us is the sidewalk.  The Hostess then shows us to our seats - front and center along the stage/walkway.

Once you step into the theatre/dining room, it immediately transports you to another century, more specifically mid-1800s France.  The decor is red - lights, booths, walls, etc.  I, personally, LOVE it!  We settle in, the girls settle in, and our waitress comes in to take our order.  Since, it is Seattle, I stick with my coffee for a good brunch beverage.  This is our second time here and we fell in love with their beignets and frites, especially the truffle frites.  I am drooling thinking of them now...sooooo good!  The Girl absolutely LOVES the apple fritter beignets - with a dusting of powdered sugar and a side of caramel sauce for dipping.  I admit, I stole a couple off of her plate, but I did share my truffle frites.  So, when our food arrived, the lights dimmed and the music starts.

The show was fantastic!  I commend the performers on their talent and stamina.  They were just incredible!  My favorite of course was the Host for the evening, Paul Flanagan aka Sensible Paul.  First of all, he had The Husband join him on stage and appointed him "The Hype Man" and he periodically checked in on him throughout the show (Follow @mackiddtseattle on Instagram for the video and more).  He is the man to see at BonBon Brunch, Paul not The Husband.  He made us laugh , he made us green with envy with his singing, he was a one-of-a-kind fantastic performer.  The ladies: Jenna, Zoe, and Tia were great too with their solo performances.  But for me, it was Paul and his Hype Man, The Husband.  Yeah, I am a bit biased.  However, it was still a fantastic show!

Okay, so some parents might be a little skeptic about a cabaret or a can-can show being family-friendly, well this show definitely is!  It was dancing, singing, brunch, and an all-around good time.  Granted, the show is about an hour long with a brief intermission, it was still a really good show.  As a parent, I will be bringing my daughter back, not just for the delicious beignets, but for the show.  It was really, REALLY that good!  They DO have another show, just for the adults, maybe The Husband and I will go back for Date Night.

Thank you to the staff and the performers for a really unforgettable time at the Can Can Culinary Cabaret!

So, now YOU need to get your tickets and see this show!  Right NOW!
